Sworn In • NC HouseThree terms. Eight bills authored and signed into law. Chairman of the committees that shape our children's schools and our state's education budget. David Willis doesn't just talk about conservative values in Raleigh — he turns them into law.
David and his wife Shannon chose Union County more than two decades ago for the same reasons so many families do — great schools, low taxes, and wonderful people. They're raising their three children in our public schools, worshiping at Calvary Church, and building a small business that serves local families every day.
After graduating from Appalachian State and spending over 15 years in manufacturing, banking, and finance, David built a successful preschool business — experience he now puts to work protecting taxpayers and growing opportunity for every family in North Carolina.
Plenty of politicians file bills. David Willis passes them. Eight bills he authored as a primary sponsor have been signed into North Carolina law — for veterans, families, students, and taxpayers.
Authored the law creating an official state day honoring North Carolina's combat-wounded veterans.
Landmark protections and a clear voice for the foster families who open their homes to vulnerable children.
Extended filing deadlines so farmers and fishermen aren't penalized by circumstances beyond their control.
Fair practice standards that help more licensed counselors serve North Carolina communities.
Expanded flexibility and accountability to grow high-quality public school options for families.
Created an independent board to approve quality charter schools — enacted over the Governor's veto.
Smarter licensure pathways to put strong, proven leaders at the front of North Carolina schools.
Lower-cost pathways to a UNC System degree — making college more affordable for NC students.
House leadership doesn't hand out gavels lightly. In just three terms, David Willis has earned three chairmanships — including the two committees with the greatest impact on North Carolina's schools.
Setting the policy agenda for every public school student in North Carolina — from the classroom to the school board.
Holding the pen on the education budget — making sure our tax dollars reach students and teachers, not bureaucracy.
Leading North Carolina's work on emerging technology, government efficiency, and accountability.
Plus Vice Chairman of the full House Appropriations Committee and Vice Chairman of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
“I believe we have a responsibility to give back to the community that gave us our start. My job is simple: be Union County's voice in Raleigh — and get results.”— David Willis
“We're here to talk about real-world applications that can be used for government efficiency and accountability.”
